Turkey is the cradle of civilizations which holds the treasures of thirteen successive civilizations, spanning more than 10,000 years. The country always allures visitors from all over the world, with her rich, stunning tangible and intangible cultural hertage.

Did you know? Istanbul is the only city in the world located on two continents, both Europe and Asia. Having thousands years of history, it had been the capital of three great empires; including the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman empires.

Several groups of Ladies on the Go have experienced this Insight 16 day tour. This is a busy tour full of history and unique sites. An optional 5 night cruise to Athens is available following the tour. While this cruise ship does not afford the luxury of larger cruise ships, it is a means of getting around the Greek Islands.

Book early as Turkey is a popular destiantion and sells out quickly.

Best of Tunisia – 10 days – April 1 -10, 2011
Come on a caravan of discovery through diverse landscapes, peppered with the traces of a long and eventful past, laced with a rich cultural heritage. Enjoy a desert experience as you travel by a four-wheel drive vehicle for an adventure deep into the Sahara desert to spend a night in a tent hotel. Land only from $1635.00 dble or $1975.00 solo

check here for full tour details…

**This tour is not exclusive to ladies and Ladies on the Go. This tour will include other guests.

Tunisia – a treasure trove of ancient empires
Once the heartland of Roman Africa, it’s no surprise that Tunisia is home to some of the worlds finest Roman sites and ruins. Today, evidence of Tunisia’s rich heritage can be seen in the fascinating sites of Phoenician and Roman Carthage, the ruins of the Punic town of Kerkouane and the medinas of Tunis and Sousse, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites and home of magnificent Islamic architecture.

Tunisia – a true shopper’s paradise
If you love to haggle, you’ll adore the souks. The medinas or old towns, which are home to the souks, are real living places where craftsmen can still be found practicing their trade on the streets, and where each street represents a different craft. The nobler trades, such as jewelers, silk merchants, perfumers and booksellers are normally located centrally around the mosque, and the practical trades, such as pottery, can be found towards the outskirts of the town. The best way to shop in this entertaining maze is to wander aimlessly and stumble across whatever takes your fancy.

Tunisia – the intrepid spirit of the Sahara
The Sahara isn’t all shifting sands and endless dunes. Feel the exhilaration of sand-yachting, 4×4 adventures, camel treks or horse riding. Climb aboard the Red Lizard train passing through the canyons and over brooks before watching the seductive sunset in the mystifying backdrop.

Red Lizard Train
No visit to Central Tunisia is complete without a visit to and ride on the famous Red Lizard Train. Built by the French at the end of the 19th century, the original purpose of the narrow gauge line was to transport the rich phosphate deposits, discovered in 1896 by amateur paleontologist and French army veterinary surgeon, Philippe Thomas, from Metaloui westwards to Redeyef. The Red Lizard itself was for many years used by the Bey of Tunis, to travel between Tunis and his summer palace at Hammam Lif, but in 1995 was refitted by the national railway company and set to work, which it still does today, transporting tourists in style.

Taking an enjoyable hour and a half, the return journey along the gorge takes you through some of Tunisia’s weirdest and most wonderful rock formations. As the track follows the path carved out by the Oued Seldja, the riverbed which is dry for most of the time, still has enough moisture to allow small pockets of lush greenery which serve to heighten the drama of the rocky landscape and make your adventure all the more remarkable.

Admire the Crown Jewels at Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace, and Sir Walter Scott’s Abbotsford House. In medieval York, enjoy a walking tour that features York Minster and the narrow Shambles. Return to London by way of the market town of Stamford and the university city of Cambridge

May 31/10: Another free day to enjoy London as the group arrives for the tour. (if you choose not to do the extra nights in London you would depart Canada on May 30/10

Highlights are a visit to ST. PAUL’S CATHEDRAL (except on Sundays) and the ceremonial pageantry of the Changing of the Guard, if held. Free time in the afternoon for independent activities or to join an optional excursion to Windsor Castle or the Tower of London with its fabulous Crown Jewels.
June 2/10: London–Hampton Court–Stonehenge–Salisbury–Bath Meet your Tour Director and traveling companions and depart at 8 am for a memorable day of sightseeing. First, a special visit to admire the breathtaking ORNAMENTAL GARDENS of Henry VIII’s Hampton Court Palace. Your Tour Director will take you on a walk to see the Great Vine, Pond Garden, Privy Garden, and the flower borders of the Great Fountain Garden. Then, westward to the intriguing prehistoric monument of STONEHENGE. Via Salisbury with its magnificent cathedral, the ultimate in Early English Gothic architecture, head for the elegant Georgian city of Bath, where you see the amazing excavations of the ROMAN BATHS. Tonight, enjoy a welcome dinner at your hotel. (B, D)

June 3/10: Bath–Stratford-upon-Avon–North Wales–Chester: Savor vistas of the Cotswolds on your way via the medieval market town of Stow-on-the-Wold to Stratford-upon-Avon.
June 4/10: Chester–Lake District–Edinburgh, Scotland : This morning’s walking tour includes the Roman remains, black and white half-timbered buildings, the cathedral, and the two-tiered shopping arcades called the “Rows.” Focus now on the tranquil Lake District, considered to be the finest of England’s national parks. After a break in Wordsworth’s beloved Grasmere, head north for the Scottish border. On the way through the history-steeped Lowland Hills, stop at Gretna Green, where the blacksmith used to wed runaway couples. In Edinburgh, don’t miss our optional Scottish evening with Highland dancers, bagpipers, and the Ceremony of the Haggis. (B)

The afternoon is free to enjoy this “Prince of Cities” at your own pace. Later, a unique optional experience: board the former Royal Yacht Britannia, once the perfect royal residence for the Queen’s glittering state visits and family holidays. Dinner rounds off this optional evening. (B)
